Bicycle Patrol Training Courses

Bicycle Patrol Outfitters (BPO) Training Division's philosophy was developed with quality training at its foundation to ensure professionalism in the law enforcement, public safety and security bicycle patrol industries.  Our instructors are certified by the California Peace Officers' Standards & Training (POST).

BPO's lead instructor has helped design customized bicycle patrol training courses for several public law enforcement/safety departments and private security companies including Boeing, Raytheon Communications, Pinkerton Security Services, Rank Investigations, Stonewood Mall, California State University at Northridge Parking Department, Grossmont-Cuyamaca Department of Public Safety, California State University at Los Angeles Parking Department, and the University of San Diego Department of Public Safety.  References are available upon request.

Should you decide to contract with Bicycle Patrol Outfitters for your bicycle patrol training, we will work closely with you to develop a quality training program that will best suit your team's needs.

Training sites include Los Angeles county and San Diego county.  We can also provide training at your work site.  However, additional per diem costs would apply to all out-of-county training courses (travel, hotel & incidentals).  Please call us for more information (951) 318-7341.

Note: There is a $500 cancellation fee if the training is cancelled less than 5 days prior to the scheduled training start date.

Why is it important to train your bicycle patrol personnel?

Do you require your personnel to obtain a guard card, graduate from an accredited law enforcement academy or any other professional certifications before you allow them to begin working for your company?  If your personnel carry a firearm on duty, do you require them to pass a certified firearms safety and proficiency course?  Are you employees required to possess a valid driver license before they are allowed to operate one of your company's vehicles?  If you answered "Yes" to any of these questions, your company is concerned with liability and mitigating risk management concerns.

If you currently have a bicycle patrol program but have not yet provided your personnel with adequate training, you are potentially exposing yourself and your company to liability problems.

Did you know that the number one reason employers fail to provide bicycle patrol training to their bike officers is money?  Wouldn't you rather spend a small amount of money up front than a lot later to defend a lawsuit?

Failure to train can create a lot of unnecessary problems for you and your company.  These problems could include costly legal fees if one of your untrained employees gets injured while riding on the job without proper training, without adequate equipment, or without policies to define what they should or should not do on the patrol bike.

Because we live is such a litigious society, you should at the very least consider providing your bicycle patrol personnel with the basic training and skills they will need to perform their jobs safely and effectively.  Let BPO's highly skilled and professional training staff provide this highly specialized training.

BPO does not provide a 100% guarantee that future accidents will never occur once your personnel are properly trained.  We can not possibly forecast every imaginable hazardous and/or unexpected situation your personnel may encounter on the job.  However, we are confident that we can train your personnel to be much more knowledgeable, skilled and effective cyclists after they have completed one of our comprehensive bicycle training courses.

If you have already purchased your company's bicycle patrol uniforms and equipment, don't forget to include the most important item - training!  BPO has developed several bicycle training courses including our Basic, Intermediate and Advanced bicycle patrol courses.
